My Students
The school I work at is described as college prep for students who will be the first in their family to go to college. Most of these juniors and seniors get free or reduced price lunch and almost all are urban students of color. My students have big dreams for their lives and look to me, to us really, to help them get there. They want to find their place in this world and I love being a part of that!
My Project
These 30 books (Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind) will be for my AP World History class, where we study all of human history. This book does a better job summarizing the major movements of history than the textbook!
I picture us sitting together in a circle, reading this together, discussing how the past has shaped our world.
We will think critically together about the trajectory our species is on. I'll scaffold the difficult vocabulary and teach students how to read for the big ideas, connecting the text to their own lives. Students will use this to decide what areas of focus they want to learn more about.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
