My students need balls, sand toys, jump ropes, hula hoops, and playground toys for outdoor active play.

My Students

Young children need time every day during the school day to have active play.

Our students are five and six year old children attending an elementary school in central Florida.

They are happy, active, and love to learn. We are a Title 1 school. This means we have a lot of children that qualify for the free or reduced federal food program. We have about 86% of the campus on the food program and the entire campus gets a free breakfast.

My Project

The playground materials we have are very old and are in need of replacing. The balls keep losing their air, so we are constantly having to blow them back up. Some of the balls have torn or popped due to wear and daily use. Our boys love to play basketball and they need two new basketballs so they can continue to play their basketball games. The children really like to dig and play in the sand. We have a huge sand area for the children to dig and play in but our sand toys are in shambles. The Florida sun can sure take its toll on plastic tools. We put things away but it seems that more sand toys break every month. I have included hula hoops, a Frisbee-like toy, and jump ropes. These items all provide active play for children and allow them to develop and strengthen a lot of muscle groups. The items that I am requesting will not only be used by my students but all of the kindergarten classes will be able to use our supplies during recess.

Our children will be able to choose from more toys to play with while they are on the playground.

Having new choices will be nice for the children so they can experience new activities.
