My Students

Science has never been a favorite subject of mine. As an elementary teacher I want to make science fun!

We are a school with a diverse racial and socioeconomic background.

I teach in a self-contained first grade class. Our school has a population of over 700 students. My students are natural explorers and enjoy the outdoors. Their interests range from sports to drawing to interacting with electronic devices.

My Project

As a teacher I realize how important science is and how much fun it can be. My goal is to utilize more hands-on manipulatives to conduct simple investigations. Research shows that children understand and retain information better and longer when they are actively involved in investigative exploration. The science concepts we will explore in first grade consist of Things in the Sky, Balance and Motion, Rocks and Soil, and Plants. If this project is funded it will help provide hands-on materials for students to use in their science investigations. It would also provide nonfiction books about the science concepts of study for first grade.

Your support in funding this project may help to steer many students towards a future in science as adults.

It will certainly allow students to have fun while learning about the world they live in.
