Help me give my students subscriptions to Study Island, an online learning and test preparation program that directly aligns with our state's learning standards.
“It is not important to be better than someone else, but to be better than you were yesterday.”—Jigoro Kano
My students are a big-hearted group of fifth graders in North Carolina.
Working hard, practicing until we achieve mastery, and never giving up are principles we adhere to in our classroom.
Providing resources that allow my students to practice their learning until achieving mastery is a top priority for me. For many years, I have depended on Study Island to help my students learn the value of hard work to master academic concepts. It is a program that provides individualized instruction, practice, instant feedback, incentives, and data tracking tools to help my students and me meet our teaching and learning goals.
My Project
Study Island is a tool I integrate into my students' classroom experience. They learn concepts, then practice those concepts independently and in small groups using Study Island. Learning becomes student-owned as they work on individualized goals to earn blue ribbons for showing mastery of concepts. In my room, students who earn all their Study Island blue ribbons are honored with their pictures on my door and other rewards. Through rewards and recognition, drill and practice take on a fun, positive spin. And more importantly, my students, through their own effort, develop confidence and pride in a job well done.
