My students need safety goggles. We do a lot of laboratory activities and we need to replace our old, torn, scratched and broken goggles. These will last a long time.

My Students
Help my students as they explore upper level sciences through inquiry and laboratory projects. This approach to teaching science aligns with the new Next Generation Science Standards and engages students, but we need safety goggles to effectively implement these activities.
I teach in a small rural school in West Virginia.
We have about 300 students in grades 9 through 12 and I teach chemistry and physics to 11th and 12th grade students in both professional and vocational tracks. The small size of our school, and the fact that most of our students have attended school together since beginning primary school, makes our student body a really cohesive group. There is a high rate of poverty, as is true in most of the state, but our school has consistently met annual yearly progress in recent years. However, they deserve more and the inclusion of a more active learning model engages and excites students about science.
My Project
My chemistry and AP chemistry students do a lot of laboratory and inquiry activities that require safety equipment, but our set of safety goggles is old, scratched, oxidized, and torn. I also teach two sections of physics and we will also need to wear goggles while studying projectiles, collisions, electricity and fluids. They love the labs, but hate the goggles. We need a new set of safety goggles so that they can love the labs without the pain.
The equipment in this project request will affect all my science students over multiple years.
This year that includes 23 physics students, 12 AP chemistry students and 54 chemistry students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
