The students love to get hands on experience in the lab in science class, but hate wearing the old safety goggles. They don't like how they fit on their face and feel embarrassed to walk around the school with the red suction marks around their faces.
The goggles that would be purchased through this project not only have a more modern design, they're also available in different colors to allow for individuality.
Any time they can incorporate their personality they automatically enjoy it more. This project also includes prescription glasses slip overs. Students try to get out of wearing safety glasses claiming their eyes are already covered. The typically safety glasses fit awkwardly over their glasses and they can't simply swap them out if we want them to see what they're doing in the lab. The slip overs will fit over the front of their glasses, converting them temporarily into safety glasses.
The project also includes new safety aprons. The aprons we currently have are rarely used: they're old, discolored, and have seen better days. There are a handful of labs that involve using different dyes and indicators that can stain clothes. The students are often forgetful and don't wear something they wouldn't mind ruining. This would help offer another layer of protection. The project also includes beaker tongs and thermometers so that students can measure the temperature of solutions they're working with and can then safety move the beakers once they've reached a certain temperature.
