This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
― John Dewey
The group of scholars in my classroom is a dynamic bunch. Together, the second graders in my class are articulate, respectful, motivated, outstanding, and responsible. They love to work on challenging tasks that encourage productive discourse. They enjoy participating in hands-on activities. Needless to say, because all children learn differently, the learning needs of my students vary greatly.
The community of learners I, alongside my co-teacher, teach, come from diverse households, many of which face challenges such as social, emotional, academic, and financial hardships in their daily lives. With that said, when they come to school each day, learning and fun are placed at the forefront of their day with hopes to guide them to reach their fullest potential regardless of the demands of the world around them. While the teachers and support staff strive to provide resources, it truly takes a village. Please help me support these bright scholars shine as they should at the Jewel of Long Island City.
My Project
Blended learning will be taking place this year. That means that teachers and students will be in the classroom together. We believe that by taking the appropriate measures and maintaining safety first in our second grade classroom we know we will thrive.
Just like an academic subject, we plan on using these new safety measures to teach lessons on proper handwashing techniques, as well as social distancing in a positive way.
The non-contact thermometer and automatic soap dispenser will encourage our young learners to practice hygiene and maintain cleanliness.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
