Safety and Inclusion Through Rugs

Help me give my students a safe and inviting classroom. Adding rugs to the space will increase safety for children during movement play and physical therapy. High contrast rugs will assist with floor play for visually impaired students.

My Project

Did you know rugs can make a classroom inclusive? By adding high contrast rugs to our therapy room we can increase students safety during floor play and movement breaks. The rugs will not only provide an extra layer of support for our students, they will also support visually impaired students to move about the classroom. Research has found that student with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) are able to attend to high contrast colors (e.g., black, red, yellow, etc.) better than other colors. Therefore, adding these rugs to our classroom will increase inclusion for all.

As a therapy team we strive for our classroom to be a safe and inviting place for all of our students.

Incorporating rugs into our classroom decor will support students with sensory needs, Autism, visual impairments, physical disabilities, and more! Please help us in providing an inclusive environment.
