This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I service live in the South Bronx. Most of the students live below the poverty level and reside in public housing. Currently, I will be working with second grade students in an ICT setting. The population of the children in my class are either English language learners, students will disabilities and general education students.

This academic year my goal is to create a supportive learning environment in-person and/or remotely.

Due to the pandemic, I will no longer have the option of allowing students to share supplies. It is important for me to create an environment that fosters learning and keeps my students safe. For this reason I am asking for individual student supplies for my class. If in the future we have to return to complete remote instruction, the supplies will be sent home.

My Project

The supplies that I am requesting will be used in school and/or remotely. I am requesting school supplies like pencils, sharpeners, dry erase markers, etc. In previous years I would ask for parents to donate supplies that are used as a classroom community. Unfortunately, this is not an option this year due to the pandemic and how easily the virus spreads. The resources that I am requested are basic supplies, students would use on a daily basis.

Preparing these individual pencil cases for each of my students will also allow me to send the supplies home in the event that we go completely remote in the future.
