Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a school social worker in an elementary school, I work closely with students who face emotional, behavioral, and social challenges. Whether they are dealing with anxiety, trauma, attention difficulties, or simply learning how to navigate friendships and emotions, having the right tools makes all the difference.
This project will provide new SEL materials as well as help me replace worn-out and well-loved tools that have supported many students over the years.
Fidgets and kinetic sand help with self-regulation and focus, while board games and feelings games promote emotional awareness, communication, and social skills—all in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way.
These calming and coping materials will be used in individual and small group sessions, as well as in our calming corner, giving students safe ways to express themselves, practice problem-solving, and feel more in control. This is where we will use the fluffy round rug.
