Having a safe space with a rug and visuals would be helpful in my classroom for my students on the autism spectrum. My students have a difficult time regulating their feelings and with the help of these visuals and safe area, maybe they will be comfortable. Students on the autism spectrum need visuals and a calm area to express their emotions.
My students have a difficult time regulating their own behavior because of their social and communication deficits.
Providing this safe space will help them communicate their feelings. When my student gets upset or is having a difficult time in the classroom they can go to this area and self regulate without disrupting the rest of the class. This area will be used as a reinfocing area and happy place.
My students can use this area as needed and it will be a positive and safe place for them to go in the classroom when needed and keep everyone safe.
