My Project
This year I continue to work alongside scholars in a K/1 special education classroom; unlike last year, some of these children are entering school for the first time. They need a calm and welcoming learning environment that will allow them to be curious about their surroundings during the daily class sessions. This project will help me establish routines and a sensory corner in which physical activities and tactile stimulation is encouraged in the classroom.
My goal for this project is to provide students with a calm, secure and safe environment that encourages exploration and discovery through hands-on activities.
The reorganization of the classroom will help scholars de-stress and self-regulate. The wall pads and mini trampoline with net will help with safety when students become overwhelmed and feel the need to exert some energy. The sensory tent and lamps will help to create a calming corner and a safe space. The visual schedule will help to establish daily routines within and outside the classroom.
