My Students

My students are energetic and excited to learn. My first graders thrive in a structured environment. They live in a community on the west side of Chicago. It is a beautiful and strong community but lacks some resources.

When they come to school, many of my students have needs that need to be met, and we work to meet them, but we also learn to read!

Despite my students' wide range of reading levels, they all love books and can't wait to explore our world of literacy in first grade this year. We were online for our first part of the year to keep everyone safe and help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and are about to begin hybrid learning.

My Project

Hybrid learning will be starting March 1st in our district. We have 18 first graders attending in person and 38 attending school remotely (between the two classes). In an attempt to help our simultaneous online and in person instruction, they all will need individual school supplies that is organized systematically.

Pre-pandemic we used community school supplies so this will be different for them.

The journal and pencils will be used for writing, the notebook and dry erase markers for math instruction so they can hold up their completed work and I can see it from a safe distance. The masks and hand sanitizer will be their individually to make keeping clean more fun. Lastly the floor cushions will give them an opportunity to gather on the floor at a safe distance so they won't be stuck at their desks all day and they can clean them with the wipes.
