Special education can be challenging but extremely rewarding. Especially if you teach in the South Bronx. My students come from a predominately low-income area and come from single-family households. Ninety-five percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches based on their socio-economic backgrounds. My students face a multitude of problems in our school. Lack of proper funding for books and other essential needs, growing up in a high crime high poverty neighborhood, and a general culture that doesn't put an emphasis on a strong education.
My students are highly energized and visual learners.
They love working on computers and using technology. In my classroom, I push my students to become job and college ready. Throughout the year we explore how to write resumes, balance checkbooks, plan a dinner party, use Microsoft Office, use Google Drive, and design a house/room/zoo. This way my students are ready for the real world at a young age.
My Project
Please help me create a safe environment for my students. In order to do this, my students need their own set of supplies. These supplies will be given to my students to keep so there will be no cross contamination. The items include pencils and pencil sharpeners, headphones, hand sanitizer and a sanitizing machine for their items. These items might seem insignificant but they are key in a post-covid classroom. These key items are a way to help my students protect themselves as well as their family members at home. This way they can focus on their classwork and not worry about keeping their loved ones safe.
