Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the only school counselor for over 600 amazing students. Ninety percent of our students are Latino and 76% are from low-income families. About 11% of our students are considered special needs. Our students are bright and creative and come from hard-working, loving families that want to see their children succeed.

Our school families were recently given the option to have their children return to in person learning in a few weeks or to continue learning remotely.

My Project

Recess, whether it's indoor or outdoor, will look very different this year. Students will be required to stay socially distanced for everyone's safety. Students will not be allowed to use any of the play structures or share any equipment. This will make recess extremely challenging for our students.

Providing each student with their own individual recess kit will keep them active and engaged while practicing social distance.

Each recess kit will vary per grade level and contain items students can use indoors and outdoors such as jump ropes, chalk, play-doh, activity books, or bubbles. Students will use these items to play with individually during recess. The draw string bags will be labeled for each student and help them keep their recess items together.

Recess should be a time for students to have fun and get some energy out. Please help our students stay active and safe during recess.
