My Students
I am fortunate to teach a diverse multilingual group of bright eyed 22 second graders in an urban school. They are an active and curious group of children who come from various cultural and social economic backgrounds with varying learning needs. They come to school ready to learn and to become independent learners.
I feel blessed and honored to be able to work with this wonderful, caring and eager group of learners.
Everyday they come to school with a positive attitude to learn.
My Project
Help me give my students a safe and welcoming place to learn by providing cool clean air with an air purifier and a supply of bandages. Having clean air will positively affect the learning of these precious learners. We often do not realize how the air quality can affect ones' thinking and learning, and we have experienced it first hand with the fires that have affected San Francisco the last 2 years. Having enough bandages in the classroom will also help students keep their minds on what they need to learn rather than focus on the "owies" they have gotten, whether it is a scratch, a hang nail, or paper cut.
We expose these children to poor air and expect them to be able to comprehend and learn.
As adults we notice when the air bothers us, but children need us to help advocate for them to have cleaner air to learn. We have an architectually beautiful school built in the early 1900's, but this school leaves us with no modern air/heating system in the building.
I strive to provide my students with hands-on experiences in a clean and safe environment and having cleaner air and plenty of bandages will help their experiences.
