We are a diverse school with 700 wonderful and inquisitive students.
Our school strives to meet the needs of every student by teaching in a way our students best learn. One way is through our dual language program. Our students receive half of their daily instruction in English and the other half their instruction in Spanish. Almost half of our students have Spanish as a first language. Spanish-speaking students get to continue learning in their native language while they continue to build English as their second language. Our English-speaking students continue to reinforce their English skills while simultaneously obtaining a second language. Our goal is to help foster our students' love for learning and to continue to develop our children's ability to become bilingual and biliterate.
My Project
Our students love to read! Each child will benefit from having access to these multicultural books in Spanish and English. By listening to the books being read aloud and through independent reading time, students will learn the same vocabulary in both languages. Being able to have the same titles in English and Spanish will help us bridge the two languages and allow students to build connections in their minds. This will allow students to form a deeper understanding of each language. We are promoting biliteracy in second grade!
These donations will continue to support our biliterate program.
Students will be able to read, write, and speak about all content areas as well as communicate socially in both Spanish and English. These students will gain an invaluable skill; communicating in two languages. We are giving these students an advantageous tool that they will carry with them throughout their lives!
