My Project

The sweet little chirps of new life are a miracle that every child should be able to experience. Giving my children the opportunity to witness the hatching and life cycle of geese will be a memory that will stay with them for years. Watching the embryos develop inside the eggs using a candler, observing the hatching process, and interacting with the developing goslings will not only inject authenticity into our curriculum but will also provide a unique life experience.

Nothing grabs attention like tiny peeps and webbed feet.

My students have not visited a working farm and have had no real exposure to watching geese develop and grow. Learning how to use an incubator, prepare a brooder box, and take care of a newborn animal will impact their outlook on our natural world. We learn about life cycles, resources, and the poultry industry in our state; this experience will give the students a genuine hands-on exploration of an area of their community that is unfamiliar to them. We will also be able to work with our 4-H Club and donate our live geese to community members who will raise and care for the new birds. I know that giving children the opportunity to nurture and care for a resource that they have only read about will not only help develop their sense of responsibility, but will also elevate the excitement of our school day. Thank you for helping to create a magical memory for our class.
