My Project

The "Rural Voices" digital storytelling project aims to enhance our developing computer science program in Blakely, GA, by providing students with hands-on experience in digital storytelling. Through this digital storytelling project our developing Computer Science Department will give voices to our community through the power of technology.

Goals

1. Provide students with practical experience in digital storytelling.

2. Showcase the stories and experiences of our rural community.

3. Develop students' skills in video production, audio editing, and digital storytelling.

4. Apply the standards established by the GaDOE for Computer Science when developing projects.

This project will not only benefit our students but also help preserve and share the history and culture of our rural community. By securing funding and resources, we can provide our students with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in computer science and beyond.

While computer science is a technology-driven subject, printed materials remain a vital part of our learning environment. Ink is essential for printing lesson plans, student coding guides, project rubrics, assessments, and debugging worksheets. These printed resources support students in organizing their work, referencing syntax rules, and following step-by-step project instructions without toggling between screens, which can be distracting or confusing for beginners.

Additionally, not all students have reliable access to digital devices at home. Printed materials ensure equitable access to learning tools for all students, regardless of their technology situation outside the classroom. Ink also allows us to showcase student achievements by printing certificates, posters of their projects, and visuals for classroom displays that help foster pride, motivation, and a sense of belonging.

In short, ink helps bridge the gap between digital and traditional learning, enabling all students to engage more effectively and confidently in computer science.
