This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is an elementary school that services students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. We are located in the middle of a diverse and dense urban population in Los Angeles, California. We are part of a bilingual community. Our students are full of energy and eager to learn about themselves, their community and the world.
We are a Title I school that serves low-income families from different cultural backgrounds and diverse needs.
Physical activity and after school organized sports are some of our students' greater needs. There aren't many organized sports available within a close proximity of school and transportation is limited. Therefore one of the clubs we offer is running club.
My Project
Our running club has been a successful after school program for the past 3 years. Kinder through 5th graders have participated, completing several miles and have started a healthier lifestyle thanks to our running club. We have students, teachers and parents running every Thursday and Friday and it's one of our top clubs at our school. Through our running club we have sent students to participate in local 5K/10K walk/runs and we've had students place in these races in their age groups.
Our running season is a long one that spans from September to May and having music during running club would help keep us motivated and keep going.
A portable speaker would help us easily provide music for our runners. It's portable and easy to carry to our field/track. The speaker would give us the opportunity to play our students' favorite musical tracks and therefore keep them motivated the entire running season.
