This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Strong, healthy bodies contribute to academic success.
Students can think and concentrate better when their energy level is up and they feel good.
Working together to achieve a common goal promotes teamwork, responsibility and respect for others. These are just some of the benefits our students receive through distance running. Our school is a Title I school, which means that more than half of our families live below the poverty level. Few students get the opportunity to participate in team sports outside of school due to poverty issues and lack of time on the part of families with two working parents. The students at our school are participating in the sport of distance running through Marathon Kids. The students' goal is to run a complete marathon in 3 months' time by breaking down the length in weekly goals that are then compiled together to ultimately reach 26.2188 miles!
My Project
Our students will be participating in the Marathon Kids running club this year. They will be running every day, charting their progress in accumulating enough distance to equal a marathon! Please help our students in their quest to become stronger and healthier through running.
Your generous donation will help us offset the costs of participating in the Marathon Kids distance running program.
Strengthening hearts and muscles, increasing lung capacity, and developing physical endurance are just some of the benefits participation in distance running provides. Add to this the opportunity for students to support each other emotionally and share in the sense of accomplishment they each feel about "going the distance," and it is easy to see why "sports make people better."
To culminate their experience, we will travel to a local college to meet with other schools participating in the program. At this event, they will receive t-shirts from Marathon Kids. We would also like to provide award medallions for each student participating. This includes our entire student running population.
Our school's budget does not include enough money for all of the costs to participate in the running club this year. Your donation of award medals will offset the costs. We are counting on your help to make our Marathon Mustangs' goals a reality!
