About My Students

My students are young, excited learners with diverse backgrounds. They are always eager to take on new challenges and explore. My students are high achievers, yet, from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs.

Candace, one of my class leaders, has helped me create this project. Her views and ideas are important because the business's target market will be the students. She has really done an excellent job leading her class in creating the business plan to starting our school's first business.

The running of our school's first business will be my students first test and challenge. With their enthusiasm and motivation, I have no doubt the business will be successful.

My business students are always wanting to start and run a business. Every day they come in with fresh ideas and ask when can they start one. This project will allow my 8th graders to run the school's first photography studio. They will create the business from scratch, starting with a business plan.

The items requested for this project are the equipment needed to take pictures, such as, the camera and background drops. The black light monitor will be needed to project the pictures during the picture-taking process, and the SD card holder and reader will be used to record the pictures on.

So many skills will be learned from this project. The students will learn teamwork, develop marketing skills, start a business from scratch, and they will learn photography. In addition, the students will learn about budgeting, along with supply and demand.

In Their Own Words

My project idea is to provide a photographer at our school's special events, such as, dances and shows. At each event, our team will provide an opportunity for students and others to take personal pictures against our backdrops. They will pick a package and will be able to order those pictures. Also, I would like for our team to take pictures throughout the school year and put together a video yearbook.

As a leader, I will help set up and organize any events with my team. I will also make sure that my team and the class will do well in each role that they are assigned. As a team leader, I will continue to motivate and encourage them to think of great ideas for marketing our business and making a profit.

This project is important to me because I want to one day own my own flower shop. Learning how to start and run a business will help me to know how to start my own. This project will be a challenge because we have to sell our idea to our principal. We need to make sure that we have a great business plan, so that she will give us access to a room in the building to use as our studio.
