Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 5th grade students' ages range for 9-10 years old. All students are enrolled in an elementary school located in Canyon Country, CA. They live in a high poverty neighborhood, where 80% of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch.
The majority of our students come from low-income homes, these shoes will provide an opportunity for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in outside sports.
These students are very active and always on the go. They love to run. New shoes would inspire them to run more. It's also proven that exercise improves cognition.
My Project
The goal of the Cougar Running Club is for students to run 100 miles before the end of the school year. While tracking miles during school and after school, this will be totally attainable.
With new shoes, a 100 mile goal will be easy to reach!
These students deserve to be a part of something great, while learning to work towards a healthy lifestyle. Wearing matching shoes along with their school shirts will make them feel like they are special and really part of a team. We can't wait to share our accomplishments with the community and the world! Please help us reach our goal!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
