I teach first grade and mainstream with a special education class. We are a small school in a high-need community with no extra resources to buy materials that could enhance our learning environment.
Every day the children sit on the floor for our daily Open Court Reading lessons, math lessons, story time, and the social science lessons. The children are always saying the floor is "cold and hard and that they are uncomfortable". They continually ask if I could get a rug for them to sit.
We are requesting a rug for the children to have a more comfortable learning environment. This would help the special education children since they have physical handicaps that make it very uncomfortable for them to sit on the floor.(The rug requested is also a phonics themed rug that we could use for learning games.)
Helping us to get a rug for the children will be exciting for the whole class. Letting the children sit while being comfy will help them to hone in on learning skills. It will definitely help the special ed children for they could sit on the rug with the rest of the children, instead of sitting in chairs aside from the class which makes them feel like they are not included in lessons. They need the comfort of rugs to be on the floor. We thank you in advance for considering our request.
