My Students
I teach twenty four-year old preschoolers. My students and I, along with a wonderful assistant, work very hard throughout the school year to make sure that they are well prepared for Kindergarten. I teach in a public school that houses Pre-K through fifth-grade students. Three-fourths of my students come from moderate to low-income families.
My students are eager to learn and get excited about the daily activities in our classroom.
Their days are filled learning from one another through whole-group instruction, small-group learning activities, interacting during learning centers, as well as sharing with one another during lunch and recess.
My Project
My preschool students spend quite a bit of time throughout the day sitting on the floor. We utilize our floor during our whole-group Morning Circle Time, during Learning Centers, read-alouds, as well as preparing for dismissal.
One of the things that I love about this rug is that I can utilize it throughout the day to reinforce math skills with my students.
Being that this rug is decorated with brightly colored shapes, I plan to use it to review shape and color recognition with my students. I can use it when we are lining up to go to lunch or recess by calling out a color or shape to designate which students are to get in line. I can also use it as a game by calling out a specific shape or color and see if the students can correctly identify it by going over and sitting or standing on it.
