My Project
Every classroom needs a place for students to come together and be able to see one another in a comfortable space. Throughout the day learning takes place at desks, group tables, and on the rug. This movement around the room for the day is key for students to get movement breaks and have a comfortable working space. Preferential seating is a common and successful theme in classrooms across grade levels.
Having a clean and comfortable rug place to meet daily is a must in an elementary classroom.
In my classroom I use the rug throughout the day a space for the class to gather a whole, small group work and independent work time. Every morning we start our day together in morning meeting where we greet one another, read our morning message, share and do a brief activity. Throughout the day we use the rug space for mini lessons to activate our background knowledge together, listen to the goal at task, go over directions and then reconvene to share our ideas. Not only do we use this space as a whole group but also in small groups (both student and teacher led) to do projects like making google slides to for social studies regions group project or doing science discoveries like using trial and error to get a battery to light up a lightbulb when we do our Energy unit! Also, students like to use this space to do independent work to take a break from their desks. The rug provides a space for all of this learning to happen!
