Rug for Restorative Circles and Community Building
Help me give my students a rug for community building and restorative circles.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Alanna's classroom raised $691

My Project
During the pandemic, every rug in our school was removed. Having a rug that we can gather that is large enough for the class to comfortably make a circle will help us build a strong classroom community. When there is a strong sense of community, learning and engagement flourish. Meeting in circles helps children practice listening to and sharing with others. As a result, they get to know and respect one another. The goal is for students to learn how the circle can create a safe space for listening, conversing, and resolving conflicts. They will learn what a restorative circle is and how we can address and work through problems as a community. A rug will help meet that goal by giving students a cozy place to gather instead of a hard concrete floor. Additionally, we've asked for a rug with a world map, which will help them to learn part of our social studies curriculum.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
