My Project
Prior to the pandemic and thanks to Donors Choose, our classroom library contained a beautiful carpet that allowed the children to sit or lay down as they read during our flexible seating period. During the pandemic, all of the classroom tables and carpets were removed to make way for desks in rows. Due to this, our carpet was placed into a storage container which leaked when it rained and the carpet was damaged.
The students need an inviting library area to illicit an excitement to read.
I would like to create a classroom library that contains a warm and inviting area to independently read, reader’s response notebooks, leveled books, browsing boxes, and genre boxes that would coincide with a newly implemented reader’s workshop program as well as add to our flexible seating period.
With a new carpet, the students will be able to participate in an author study, read a variety of genres, develop fluency and comprehension on individual levels and develop reading confidence in their new inviting library area.
