Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project will benefit multiple learning opportunities and advanced learning lessons. I have included many standards the materials would support; however, it is not limited to just those standards. Students will be able to use these materials with their peers to think creatively, identify problems and design solutions.

My students will be studying the engineering design process to nurture their abilities to create innovative solutions to challenges and the design thinking process which is a solution-based approach to solving problems.

Being able to work cooperatively with their peers on these tasks gives them invaluable life skills they will need in the future.

The Keva Contraptions blocks, Elmer’s Build it Tools, and Atwood Box Lox will be in cooperative group lessons to build Rube Goldberg machines and engage students in critical thinking skills, problem solving, and teamwork with their peers.

The academic standards taught using the materials requested in my grant will provide my students with knowledge and understanding in engineering, computer science, math, critical thinking skills, and social emotional skills.

Standards:

4.OA C.5 Generate and analyze patterns.

3-5-ETS-1,2,3 Engineering Designs

Grades 3-5: -PS3-4 Energy: Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.

3-5 W2.D: Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic.

Grades -3-5: W 4.4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
