This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At the ages of 4 and 5 years old, children need about 10 hours minimum of sleep inclusive of their nap time. In this PreK program, since the children attend school from 8:20 am- 1:50 pm, the children are provided with a designated time in the day to rest and recuperate. During this time, which is called quiet time, the children are expected to rest their brains and their bodies to gain more energy for the rest of the day.
Studies show that children of this age thrive on a large number of hours of sleep.
When children are given the opportunity to rest, they perform better, have better concentration, and behave better overall. Although one would expect a child who does not have enough sleep to be tired, their little bodies tend to react differently and make them hyperactive. With this new updated rest time set, the children will have an easier time getting their nap in at school on these cots.
