Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second year Kindergarten teacher with a mixed group of 17 wonderful "princes and princesses". I teach in a title I school where 74% of the students are free or reduced lunch and where 42% of students come from an ethnic background. Big Spring Lake Kindergarten is an ARI school with 21 Highly Qualified kindergarten teachers. Many if not most of my students come from homes where educational opportunities aren't on the front burner. Most come to school with no prior knowledge of phonemic awareness. With a 40% hispanic population, language development and alphabet awareness is huge in learner success.
To provide all of my students with an appropriate kindergarten experience I need an area to build the type of language development and phonemic awareness needed to succeed. I am asking for your support in providing my students with the Expanded Storage Royal Reading and Writing Center from www.reallygoodstuff.com. This royal reading and writing center would provide me to be organized and have all materials on hand to maximize learning opportunities. It would also allow my students to be organized and give them responsibility in keeping our classroom organized. I use a small easel now for whole group instruction, small group instruction, enrichment activities, intervention for struggling students, letter introduction, pocket chart poems and stories, and big book story time. My students use the easel we have now for literacy and math centers & during whole group and small group times several times a day. My easel now is very small and I have to keep materials in the floor and around the base of the easel. This particular easel would provide a greater opportunity to make learning more efficient and fun! This reading and writing center provides ample storage for books and picture cards that I use, makers, pointers, pencils, pocket charts, and sentence strips. It has 4 shelves, 4 tubs, a magnetic dry erase white board a pocket chart holder and extra hooks and clips to maximize use.
The total cost for this proposal is $289.99 + shipping.
Thank you for your consideration in providing my "princes and princesses" with a fabulous Royal Reading and Writing Center. I look forward to using this in my classroom and I know my kindergarten royalty will too!
