My Students
Every life-long reader has found that one book that they see themselves in; that one author who perfectly explains everything that they see in their world and who tells the story that they want told. With copies of "The Rose That Grew From Concrete", our students will undoubtedly discover that book.
Our students are so amazing.
They attend a school that pushes them in ways that most middle school students would run away from. They go to school longer hours. They do two hours of homework a night. They attend Saturday School and abide by a rigorous behavior system. Not only do our students stick around, they thrive! It is inspirational to see them work so hard, to see them overcome, to see them excel in the face of so many challenges. Obviously, a challenge in this situation is keeping our students inspired to do all that they do, and that is where you come in!
My Project
You know how it is. Sometimes, maybe many times, students really need their inspiration to come from someone besides a teacher, or a parent. When that inspiration speaks your language, creates music that changed a generation, and preaches responsibility, you know you have a winner. With a class set of "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" I can easily sell my students on the power of writing and the importance of speaking their mind. With such an inspiration serving as the foundation of our class, I can tap into the writer that resides in each of us and get our kids writing like they need to to make it all the way to college.
When you are asking so much of your students, pushing them so hard to overcome all the voices that tell them that they can't do it, you really need some help with inspiration.
What better way to inspire them by having them read a great author that writes to inspire others to think, write, and change the world? With your help, we can get these incredible books in the hands of these deserving scholars.
