My Students
My students are an audacious group of inquisitive 6- to 9-year-olds attending a public Montessori school on the West Side of Chicago. This group engages with materials at their own level and at their own interest level.
Students are presented with a global introduction of the world, helping them learn how all parts of our universe are connected.
Students will build a sense of purpose in the world by learning about all which their curiosities will drive them towards.
We will expand our minds and hearts this year. I hope to foster a love of learning and build kind, compassionate citizens who are joyful and inquisitive learners.
My Project
The debate for best literacy practices continues to evolve. As an educator, it’s important to stay abreast to best research based approaches to teaching literacy. We know the importance of providing students explicit and sequenced phonics instruction to aid in their literacy development.
With access to the Waseca Reading program, students will be able to build on their phonics knowledge on their own pace, meeting their individual literacy goals.
The program is designed similarly to other Montessori materials: beautiful, hands on, that is meeting the child where they are as readers. Students will build the connection between the material and their levels with the color coded system, allowing them the opportunity to reinforce lesson objectives independently during the Work Cycle.
