Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working in a low income/high poverty neighborhood, my students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. I want to keep life simple for them. Learning through play is vital at this age and is a powerful way to learn.
Many of my students speak other languages and are learning English.
However, this does not stop them from finding the commonality between them. They are thinkers, dreamers, and believers who can do whatever they set their mind to do! They are excited to come to school and want to learn about the world around them. They work together and are compassionate!
I want my students to see the opportunities that await them and learn how to navigate through that world. I want them to develop skills that will benefit them far into the future.
My Project
These books will help me teach foundational skills needed for reading. I will used these books weekly to teach comprehension and grammar along with our reading program. Often the books that come with reading programs do not fully teach all the foundational skills that students need to become successful readers.
I'm hoping with these books that my students will be engaged and want to learn the necessary skills to become remarkable readers themselves.
Our school is starting with remote learning and I want to add these into my weekly instruction. I would love to either find pre-recorded versions of these books that I can link for my students or read them myself during our live sessions. We will then follow a pack (Rooted in Reading) that I bought to make sure that I am covering the skills taught within the specific book.
