Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a bunch of chatty, inquisitive, funny, and hardworking scholars who are in need of more than what they have currently. My 3rd and 4th graders come from a high poverty area and many of them are second language learners mixed with students with emotional issues and general education students as well.
They come from homes where parents try to provide for the basic needs and only dream of giving wants to their children.
Our school has been recognized as being a high-achieving school but we never want to stop pushing our scholars to excel further!
My Project
Amy Lemon is a very well-known educator who has worked with other literary teachers to create amazing literacy plans for an entire year using over 40 books from various genres. These lessons cover comprehension skills and strategies as well as grammar lessons for every book. The books cover topics from folk tales to biographies to non-fiction about animals.
Allowing my students to have access to these reading materials will hopefully ignite their passion for literacy by giving them a taste of so many genres.
Having these books will expand our reading library in our classroom and allow them easier access to books that they would not have at home.
