Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

These students are very sweet but can come from rough home environments. The classroom is their safe place to be kids. These students love to create, build, learn, revise their thinking, share and so much more in our classroom. Most of my students come from Spanish speaking homes and live in small dwellings, with large families. They don't all have the support they need, so our most difficult task is to help each of them succeed and shine in their own way. Many of these students do not have access to technology at home and do not have many life experiences that others are so lucky to have. A majority of them struggle in the classroom academically. The dynamics of my class are very interesting because students range high to low academically, and some have learning disabilities. They work hard and deserve the opportunity to experience new things throughout the year. This is my school's 1st year having a S.T.E.A.M Magnet Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) on site and this project will allow us to go beyond the surface of these subjects. Due to lack of funding, we haven't been able to use robotics thus far.

My Project

Ozobots will help my students with coding, design and engineering. They are cool, cute and compact bots that will bring more fun into the classroom. These bots will follow drawn color codes that the students create on paper or even on an Ipad/ tablet. Ozobots will also enhance student learning and can be used across the 3rd grade curriculum. Students will be able to work through problems, learn to recalibrate the bots and utilize them for STEM Challenges within our classroom. They will be able to explore and present their findings to their peers, as well as other STEAM classes at our school. These ozobots will not only enhance my students learning but at the end of their findings we will host a family night where parents come learn and play with their students.
