The CSS cheerleading team is composed of talented, dedicated, intelligent, and diverse students who travel from all over the New York City Metropolitan area to attend. Our school is a select STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in partnership with Columbia University. We are the only select STEM school that represents the true diverse margins of New York City.
Both our varsity and junior varsity cheerleading teams have had huge successes both in school and outside in our community!
Over the past few years we have been invited to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Columbia University Games, Harlem Shamrock Festival, a 5K run for charity and other community events. In addition, we have also competed and won numerous competitions throughout the NYC area!
My Project
As our teams have greatly grown we are in need of more mats! Since getting our last order of mats, we have added over 40 athletes to our program. The mat donation to our team would give our students the opportunity to further their gymnastics and cheerleading training, a sport not typically found in schools and rarely found in school cheer programs. With these mats, our students would be able to increase their level of difficulty for tumbling and stunting (holding people in the air!).
The mats would allow us to safely train our cheerleaders on baskets, jumps, stunts (libs, extensions, etc.) in addition to front and back tumbling.
These mats are so versatile that we could use them as both mats and as a tumbling barrel for these specific skills. In addition, this item would save students from having to attend a gymnastics class because we would be obtaining safety material with this donation.
