This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a P.E. teacher, I am fortunate to interact with all the elementary students that attend my school at least twice a week. They enjoy P.E. because in my class, we strive to get every student involved and try to make something great happen every day. They have a special excitement for activities that connect to their experiences and interests. My students accept challenges and rise to their teacher's expectations. This attitude is especially impressive when you consider that my students make up the most diverse group of people you'll ever see.

I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.

My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive to school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as student and teacher work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. We set high expectations and each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board to remind students to achieve their dreams.

My Project

We have all been participants in those boring P.E. classes where the fitness activities include mundane stretches and running laps. The students don't enjoy this exposure to fitness and it doesn't promote improvement. I don't want my students to feel that way toward their P.E. class. My students deserve to have fitness be a fun activity that includes variety and random bouts of excitement. Using fitness dice in P.E. creates infinite possibilities for my activities.

With these fitness dice, my students will be exposed to many more styles and methods of healthy physical fitness and they can even practice the math they are learning in their classroom.

Some of my P.E. teachers as a kid were good teachers that sought to have a wide variety of different activities. Others seemed to do the same set of activities year after year. These fitness dice will help me break that mold of P.E. that doesn't benefit the students and only perpetuates the false idea that P.E. cannot be used to teach core subjects. My students will be able to practice addition, multiplication and even fractions as part of their fitness regimen. My students will become better students while they are improving their overall fitness. My students will be happier and smarter by having access to these fitness dice. I cannot wait to show them what we have for warm-ups this year!
