My Students

I believe that students must be genuinely engaged in their learning if it is going to be meaningful and long-lasting. This engagement can come in various forms, but one consistent way to make learning exciting is to integrate hands-on lessons.

Our students have school pride that is contagious.

Approximately 547 children attend my school and identify mostly as Multiracial, Black, non-Hispanic, and Asian. 100% of the students here receive free breakfast and lunch. We are also a Title I school with at least 75% of our school's students coming from low-income families. Our school is part of a huge military community. We have a well-maintained school with a loving, caring administrator, as well as teachers and support staff who do everything within their power to see that the needs of the students are met. We put students first. My students work very hard and are excited about learning. Everyone is valued, and we do all we can to provide what each child needs.

My Project

This project will enable me to introduce Computer Science Discoveries in the classroom to promote computer programming. The iPad and equipment will allow the students to learn to code.

Learning to code in school is more popular than ever, and it's never been easier for teachers to get started.

What's more, coding can teach students skills that apply across the curriculum, beyond computer science. The iPads will allow students a portable way to complete learn-to-code lessons that empower students to become producers, not just consumers, of digital media. The students will learn the necessity of computer programming in our society.

The project will allow us to begin an introduction to computer science. In the classroom, we will take a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as programming, physical computing, HTML/CSS, and data. Students are empowered to create authentic artifacts and engage with CS as a medium for creativity, communication, problem-solving, and fun.

The military students will have a special proclivity to this project, as it will allow them to learn with other military students across the country.
