This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach mathematics in a high needs high school - over 70% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. We serve a diverse population consisting of many recent immigrants from all over the world. As one of the last large schools (over 4000 students) in the Bronx, I've always had a lot of competition for resources. But I've found that the struggle is worth the effort - I see how quickly my students respond when I introduce technology-based teaching techniques, and I see their test scores improve. For example, the students all perk up and pay attention when I present my lessons via LCD projector. They feel greater engagement with the material, perhaps because they relate to the technological medium. Accordingly, I try as much as possible to present lessons to them in this format. Unfortunately, as a mobile teacher with no room of my own, technology requires a great deal of set-up time at the beginning of the period. I need to unpack the projector, plug cables in to my laptop, and get everything plugged into power. The same issue repeats at the end of the period, when I have to break everything down. I can lose a critical 5-10 minutes at the beginning and end of each period. If I had a small AV cart, I could have all my equipment set up, ready for me to roll into class. I'd only need to connect to the wall outlet, since everything else would be set up on the cart. I'd be able to use the tech equipment more often, and at the same time I'd be able to devote more time to helping my students achieve. My main objective is to help all my students meet and exceed state standards. Your generous contribution will help me use class time more effectively, and consequently help me achieve my main objective. Thank you very much for considering this proposal.
