Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is very diverse in that we have many English Language Learners. They make up almost half the population of our school. We are an all-kindergarten school made up of approximately five hundred 5- and 6-year-olds. That's a lot of little bodies that can be influenced in a positive way.
I teach eighteen enthusiastic, eager, and energetic kindergartners at a Title I school.
Our school is in a very low socioeconomic community. Because we are in a high-poverty community, all students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch through the community eligibility program. Most of my students have not had the opportunity to attend pre-k, and they have not had significant learning experiences in their homes.
My Project
For my students to have the best school experience possible, I want to provide a space that is conducive to learning. For my students, that type of environment needs to be organized & structured, so they can know their surroundings well enough to function efficiently. Literacy and math centers include playing learning games and completing work stations that need manipulatives and game pieces. We desperately need some storage to hold all of our manipulatives so that my students don't waste any time looking for certain things they need to learn. I would love to have them all in one place and that will be the go-to place for centers. Having a storage system like the ones I am requesting will allow for more learning time. In return, my students are receiving the best education possible.
