Rolling Code Into our Classroom

My students need 2 Sphero, an app controlled robotic ball, to learning coding and robotics.

My Students

Our classroom is nothing like any classroom you've ever entered. We learn, collaborate, and explore in a blended-gamified environment. As well as sit on plush furniture to help keep our room flexible and comfortable. We are explorers, pioneers in education, and technology explorers.

My students are 9th through 12th grade scientists.

My students attend school in a small, rural area. Most of my students are sons and daughters of ranchers. They are hardworking, dedicated, and curious about the world around them. They love enhancing their learning with new technology and experiencing the newest technology trends. They are fairly tech savvy as they are 1:1 with iPads which are used to help in collecting, analyzing, and collecting data and science resources for learning.

My Project

The majority of my students are interested in coding. I'd like to add a fun and innovative way for students to learn coding in my classroom. By adding 2 Spheros to our classroom we will add another layer of code understanding. We are currently working with Kano kits to learn to code, but would love to apply our skills while customizing the motion of these robots. My astronomy students would also love to simulate navigating robots on the surface of the Moon. Using Spheros in our classroom would help make this interest come to life. Not only will my students get to engage with code, but they will also get to customize what the robot does as a result of the code they write.

Students love new technology.

It excites and motivates them when it is used to enhance their learning. Donations for the project would allow my students to experience and learn this technology. The use of this device would also open up the world of coding and inform students in the different STEM career paths involving code.
