Rolling Along With Coding and Programming Sphero Robots!

My Students

My students are crazy about Computer Technology! We do a lot of things in class related to tech, and one of their FAVORITE things is to code and program robots! We only have a small set of 6 Sphero robots currently, and that is a huge challenge when working with a class of 30+ awesome kids! Usually it means that only my small, after-school group of 10 kids receives exposure and practice with these incredible tools. My students also often ask to miss their lunch and recess time to stay in the lab to program the robots and also tie this work into making and editing digital films - they are a curious and hard working bunch! They are eager to learn new technology skills and teach each other new tips and tricks they learn.

My Project

Not only will my students acquire crucial technology and problem solving skills needed for the 21st Century, but they will be able to teach each other, as well as peers in other grades and content levels - and their non-tech teachers how to code, program and debug! We also have an annual technology competition in which we participate each year, and that is such a fantastic opportunity for my inner city students. Who wouldn’t want to learn how to program a robot to move, roll, moo like a cow, turn, light up, speak and more?!
