My Students
If a teacher has all the books in the world, but they are not organized in a way that makes them easy for students to locate, it's almost as bad as not having any books at all!
I teach 2nd grade at a small suburban school in Washington.
My school is designated as a high-poverty school with many students receiving free/reduced priced meals because of their socioeconomic situation. If you were to come visit, however, you would never know that. You would see students who love learning and want to do their very best. This year, I am the teacher of 19 second graders. My classroom of 7 and 8 year olds is always made up students who have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. This includes learning support students, English language learners, and academically gifted students. I am here to teach them all and give them the best education.
My Project
This project is quite simple, but very important. I am requesting two mobile storage carts that will be used in the classroom to organize some of our books so that my students will be able to easily locate books that they want to read. Specifically, one of the carts will be used to store our leveled books, where students will be able to find books that are right at their reading level; and the other cart will be used to store some of our many book series. Students will access these books every single day during readers' workshop.
Right now, many of our classroom books are extremely unorganized due to the fact that we do not have a place to put them!
These carts will transform my classroom and help my students become better readers because if students are reading books that are at their level AND interesting to them, they will want to read more and more! And THAT'S what will help them grow as readers. Thank you for your interesting in helping my students!
