This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am blessed to work with an amazing group of PE teachers, who are not only passionate about students but also love creating new and engaging games for our students, even if that includes making ourselves look a little silly at times as long as it helps engage them in living an active lifestyle.
This project is aimed at grabbing our students' attention by having teachers dress as Ninja Turtles to introduce a new version of an old one.
Many students have played the old game "Sharks and Minnows" where "minnows" are trying to make it across the field without being caught by the "sharks", and as fun as this game is, it is also a way to get students to be very active. Our PE department thought that a great new way to play the game would be to have the teachers be the ninja turtles (aka sharks) and the students be the foot soldiers (aka minnows). We have learned through trial and error that our students can be highly motivated to participate when the teachers are highly involved in the games and the game is always more enjoyable with a bit of humor! Our PE Team is committed to creating these new games and introducing them in the best way possible, which includes pictures, videos, and visuals as there is a large percentage of students that are visual learners. So we have included a drone that has a follow me feature so that we can video students for fun reflections as well as show it to future classes when explaining the game. (we also included a case to store it as middle schoolers can often be clumsy)
