Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My present teaching position for the upcoming school year is 8th grade. The school that I have been reassigned to has very little resources, and they lack in the Earth Science area. In the past I have used the Rock Cycle Kit at other schools and it is an excellent hands on lab that brings clarity and ensures successful learning. It also integrates chemistry into the earth science curriculum. This lab takes several days to conduct and students will benefit from developing their critical thinking skills, real life problem solving, lab report writing skills and they are able to determine the real meaning to the Nature of Science. This lab reinforces the Scientific Method which is the foundation for being able to master the TAKS test. This lab also demonstrates the meaning of Geology, a job as a Geologist, it ties in with Taxonomy skills and students can observe how man made products are made from rocks used in everyday life. It also is a visual to more complex concepts relating to properties of elements on the periodic table. It's critical for students to have as many hands-on lab activities as possible to have a successful student learning environment. Science in our district is the hardest subject to master on TAKS. Please help! My students will fully enjoy it and will be very appreciative. Thank you.
