RockVillage Cafe Equipment Needed

Help me give my students new cookware and adapted equipment for our Cafe! We are learning to cook as prevocational job skills and daily living. We are so excited to be back in school together!

My Students

My students, ages 17-21 year old are in a public high school Community-Based Life Skills class. Many, though not all, of my students are coded with Autism. Other students have different or additional disorders such as Downs Syndrome, motor disorders such as Cerebral Palsy, and so on. My students have communication disorders that significantly impact them. We augment language skills with high tech devices such an iPads and dedicated voice output devices.

My students have completed their modified Gen Ed courses and are learning about the world of work, completing job applications, and getting around in the community using public transportation.

They are working on life skills such as cooking, reading for information and enjoyment, social skills, and community interactions. We go into the community often, for shopping and math skills development, to locate important places in our community, and to practice social skills, money skills, and communicating with others. We typically place students in unpaid "internships" at retail and commercial sites where they practice work skills daily, under the supervision of a school staff member. A few students are able to independently travel to their work place and back to school using public transportation .

My Project

We are a class of Transition Life Skills students, ages 17 - 21. We are learning to live independently and gain job skills. We love to cook and need proper tools and equipment. We currently have old, warped, scratched leftover equipment. We will be learning to make breakfast, lunch, healthy snacks, dinners, and desserts this year, and will sell to and serve to school staff in our cafe. Some students have physical delays and need adapted tools like a rocker knife and adapted bowls. We thank you for your support!
