This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The most liberating of abilities is to read. In our class, we are opening doors to the world around us through reading!
Our class is a group of 20 imaginative, engaged kindergarteners (and two teachers) in a co-teaching classroom.
The students come from various different levels of exposures and needs. They are energetic, motivated, and inquisitive and in need of materials to continue their excitement in reading!
Our school is comprised of most students from loving yet low-income households. Our parents want the best for their children and we as teachers aim to meet those goals.
My Project
Currently, our leveled library only services readers at levels A-C. We are in need of books to help advance the reading skills of readers learning at levels D-K.
We already have a few kindergarten readers on levels D-H. We need to keep tailoring instruction to those readers' needs. Doing so will help open doors for those students as well as create positive reading role models for the rest of the class!
These leveled books will enable our readers to choose on-level books that will help them advance their reading abilities.
Once they are reading on level, they can accept new challenges and soar!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
