My Students

As a kindergarten teacher, I love to watch my students find the joy in learning! For many of my students, my classroom is their first formal experience in a K-12 school setting. This is why it is so important that I stay up-to-date on best practices, as well as have the most current resources and materials available to my learners.

I want to offer my scholars every opportunity to cultivate their love of learning.

Kindergarten is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and hold an impromptu dance party.

In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.

As my students make gains in my classroom, I want them to feel celebrated and excited about school and be able to share that excitement with their classmates and families. My classroom is about building skills toward independence, cultivating strong relationships, feeling a sense of connectedness, and overall loving learning!

My Project

As I grow as a professional educator and teacher of developing readers, I have gained additional insight and knowledge of the mechanics of becoming a reader. A growing body of comprehensive research, called the Science of Reading, shows that teaching explicit phonemic awareness and phonics skills as the basis of reading is best practices for teachers working with the most at-risk scholars. Becoming a reader can be an uphill battle for many students, especially students who have experienced poverty stricken environments and/or are learning English alongside their language of origin.

These materials will support my scholars and I on our journey to become better readers.

Decodable reading books, world building games, and flexible seating, will be used in small group lessons to support my students as we learn explicit phonics strategies developed through research on the science of reading. I hope you will partner with me to grow the readers and leaders of the future!
