My Students
Fourth Grade is a unique year. Typical fourth-grade students are active and engaged and ready to complete more complex tasks, yet are still young and enthusiastic about their learning. They are emotionally charged, social, and passionate about the world around them. My students are no different.
They are inquisitive, curious learners, approaching each new unit with excitement and vigor.
This curiosity and excitement lead to creativity that flourishes throughout the year. They use this creativity to explore learning further and present their knowledge in a way that makes sense for their learning styles.
My fourth-grade classroom is geared towards supporting different learning styles through a flexible seating model. My students this past year included students with language-based disabilities, inclusion reading students, as well as several students with attention deficits. The utilization of flexible seating and technology helped them shine! However, this year our classroom space will look and feel drastically different from socially distanced desks and chairs with half the class learning from home.
My Project
Very often during distance learning, valuable time is wasted by students who run off to find the supplies they need for a lesson. Students will use the trifold boards to create a private home office learning center where all their supplies are at arms reach. The pencil pouch will hold their writing supplies and tools including scissors, pen, highlighter, mechanical pencil, an eraser, dry eraser marker and eraser, ruler and protractor, glue stick, and stickie notes. The binder clips will allow students to clip up important reminders and to-do lists. The wall hooks will hold the dry erase sleeve and provide a place for students to hang headphones. The dry erase sleeve will allow them to quickly work on problems in math and use templates for problem-solving. For example, when we are teaching the place value section model of multi-digit multiplication and division students use templates with place value boxes. With the dry erase sleeve, students will use a paper template in the dry erase sleeve and automatically be set up to successfully solve the problem. The wire display stands will allow students to prop up workbooks and journals or their tablet to better manage their workspace.
Remote learning presents many challenges for families and students, and my goal is to set my students and their families up for success from day one.
This project will give my students the right supplies and a distraction-free workspace which is imperative to their success. The harsh reality is that not every family has the ability to create an appropriate learning space for their child in their home and this project will allow them to do just that.
